It rains a lot this time of year.. See the much awaited showers are finally here and it doesn’t seem to stop. The cold, the august-end and the extended weekends have started reminding me that the festive season is on its way.
However, this is the best time and season to accomplish the need of ‘Green Legislation’. We had been discussing this in our monthly meetings with an NGO and the outcome was conducting a Tree Plantation Drive. With the grace of rain-god, we came up with the plan and initiated a month-long activity in a phased manner. These trees were planted by corporate volunteers in association with NGOs / schools who will also ensure the nurturing of these trees.
Each of us got into action suddenly and soon the logistics were in place. Trees were finalized, e-mails were sent for donations and participation, posters were circulated, corporates were approached and saplings were procured.
Finally, the day came and volunteers geared-up arrived at the spot early morning. Our target was to complete 150 plants along with digging pits and filling manure and soil. About 40 volunteers participated enthusiastically and some kids from a school near-by. Due to the continuous rains, the entire terrain was muddy yet the event was successful and we could meet our target.
During the actual work, few struggled while digging the pits with the shovel, once or twice even I felt few cramps here and there. Some were seen chasing the manure bag, it used to get vanished at times. Pits left unattended were soon seen getting transformed into puddles. But we were served with hot tea in drizzles. 🙂 Such was the rain-fun. It was so nice to watch children helping in the entire process apart from playing with mud-puddles. And moreover, kids liked me so we had our own team. Yuppie!!
Now that we have initiated this activity, we have a task of keeping this plantation secure. However, when you wake up tomorrow for your yoga or meditation regime, do remember to regenerate your health and breathe more, the air has just got extra aerated.
Have a good long weekend folks.
